I decided to participate in a Pet Blogger Challenge brought to you by the blog Will My Dog Hate Me? to talk about...well the challenges of pet blogging. The idea is for a lot of pet bloggers to chat (via blog posts of course) about their blogs, share--and of course drive traffic! It was a great exercise in thinking about why I sit here day after day blogging to you, dear readers. Hope you enjoy my thoughts! -Erin
1. When did you begin your blog?
I began this blog in December 2010 when Buzz was first diagnosed with diabetes.
2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?
When I found out Buzz had diabetes, I instantly went online and tried to find as much information as I could about diabetes in canines. Unbeknownst to me, most of that information was just plain wrong (there were a few very useful sites as well, which I will get around to posting, promise!). I wanted to create a place that gave accurate information, and the most up-to-date information as possible, and what better way to do this than a blog!? This blog also keeps my family updated on their grand-dog, or nephew, or whatever Buzz is to them. :)
3. Is your current purpose the same?
Absolutely.
4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?
I try to keep it updated at least once a week with whatever is going on with Buzz at that moment. This hasn't been very hard because it seems like every other day something else is wrong with him. :(
5. Are you generating income from your blog?
No, and I don't plan on it! I just really hope this blog can help someone who was/is in the same shoes as me.
6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?
I absolutely love having a place where I can go on and on about Buzz and no one can stop me. I absolutely adore both of my dogs - they are my kids - and a lot of my friends and family get tired of hearing about the medical issues surrounding my amazing little dogs. This has been a great outlet to not only understand and research more about the disease and complicating factors, but to explain it to others definitely gives an even greater understanding.
7. What do you like least?
Nothing, yet. But I am still a beginner! :)
8. How do you see your blog changing or growing in 2011?
I really hope that someone entering the diabetic dog world will find my blog and understand a lot of the complications of diabetes in canines.
Hi there! We participated in this challenge too and my reason for starting our blog was similar to yours. Riley has hip dysplasia and was going to have to have surgery so I wanted to chronicle the whole surgery process for other people that may face it in the future. We look forward to getting to know you!

Your reasons for blogging sound like my reasons. I love talking about Opie and I wanted to share my experiences with a newly adopted dog with the world. He's such a little Dickens Dawg. Buzz sounds like a little dickens as well. Our pups enrich our lives. It's only natural to want to share it.

ReplyDeleteHi, and thanks for participating in the challenge. I think it's great that you're creating a resource for others who are facing this illness with their dogs. Perhaps you already know, but Edie's dog Frankie (of WillMyDogHateMe - one of the sponsors of this challenge) is also diabetic. She blogs about his condition occasionally and I've learned that much of what I thought I knew was fiction. Thanks again!

ReplyDeleteI spent about 6 years dealing with chronic health issues of my aging dogs and know the stress involved in trying to manage your dog's health. Buzz is lucky to have such dedicated and caring people in his life.
